Trivia[edit]

© 2014-2015 American Broadcasting Companies, Inc.
  • This episode included a title card where the City of New York backdrop was replaced with the surface of Mars with a dead body in an astronaut suit lying near the "Castle" title. The Brooklyn Bridge was replaced with satellite dishes and the pen with a knife.
  • The spaceship's computer, MIRA, mentions that the ship's name is Tenzing Norgay. In the afterword of Castle's first Nikki Heat book, Heat Wave, Castle mentions Norgay's mission with Sir Edmund Hillary to reach the summit of Mt. Everest.
  • This episode features numerous references and homages to 2001: A Space Odyssey. Keir Dullea, who played David Bowman in that film, played Jonathan Tisdale, the father of the victim, in the Castle series premiere.

Quotes[edit]

Alexis: I thought you guys were working late tonight.
Castle: Slow murder day. We got off early.

Castle: Are those my pyjamas?!?
Martha: Oh oh oh oh, I'm so sorry. Ben, er ... Family, Benjamin; Ben, meet my family.
Beckett: (looking at phone) Castle, we've got a murder.
(Castle is staring horrified at Martha's boyfriend)
Beckett: To solve, not to commit.

Beckett: What is this place?
Castle: This is Mission Control! And that's Mars!
Ryan: (pointing to image on screen) And there's your body.
Castle: Our victim is on Mars? The secret manned mission rumours to Mars were true! I knew it!
Beckett: You know, this might be a little out of our jurisdiction.

Beckett: Wait, you signed up to go to Mars? When was this?
Castle: Coupla years ago.
Beckett: Where was I?
Castle: We were fighting.

(Castle, in his space suit, runs in awkward, exaggerated slow-motion leaps across the landscape).
Beckett: (walking up perfectly normally): Are you done?

Castle: (whispering through suit radio) One small murder for man, one giant mystery for mankind.
Beckett: (whispering through suit radio) You know, when you whisper, everyone can hear you.

Ryan: If I wanted to fly thousands of miles to visit a lifeless orb, I'd just visit Jenny's grandmother. Same hostile environment, same freezing temperatures, same noxious atmosphere.

Beckett: (peering up at trapdoor in roof): Castle, boost me up.
Castle: Why am I always on the bottom? (She looks at him.) Yes, dear.

Beckett: What are you doing?
Castle: Checking you for bites and scratches. Making sure you didn't somehow get impregnated.
Beckett: If that's how you think I get pregnant, we need to talk.

Alexis: (opening front door to find Castle and Beckett kissing): Wow, you guys, get a room!
Castle: We would if there were any left!

Castle: Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of Castle and Beckett. Their ongoing mission: to explore strange new motives. To seek out new witnesses and new suspects for murder. To boldly go where - oh, right over here.

Esposito: Where you gonna run? You're on Mars!

Castle: I wanted to go to Mars, not die on Mars.
Beckett: Wait a minute. We're not on Mars, we're on Earth! (takes out cellphone)
